Meet Mel

Mel currently serves as the Chair of the Kauai County Council. Mel previously served on the Kauai County Council between the years of 2002 and 2008, then again between 2010-2018. He served as the Council Chair between 2014 and 2018. He also served 13 years with the Kauai Police Department, and retired from the Hawaii Air National Guard after 21 years of service.

A 1982 graduate of Kauai High School, he later received his B.S. degree in Criminal Justice from Florida Metropolitan University.

He has served in leadership roles in numerous community organizations, and continues to serve the community on a regular basis.

Mel has been married to Patsy Rapozo for 34 years and reside in Wailua. They have two children, Baron and Nicole, who both reside on the mainland.
